What is Tai Chi Qigong?

Tai Chi translates as ‘Supreme Ultimate’ and Qigong translates as ‘energy work’. The movements we follow in the Shibashi Set have been taken from Tai Chi Chuan and have been developed over centuries.
The set is designed to improve the flow and balance of Qi in the body, leading to improvement in general health and well-being. The gentle rocking motions and stretching movements improve circulation and digestion. The chest exercises and controlled breathing assist with lung conditions and asthma. The overall effect of the set is to reduce mental stress and physical tension within the body.
Each movement has specific health benefits and the sequence is energetically balanced. We start each movement gently, allowing the body and breath to move into alignment.

Mike Neary
My journey began when I was studying Lau Gar Kung Fu, at the age of 15. When practising full contact fighting I became fascinated by the idea that Qi is energy or ‘vital breath’ and Gong means ‘to practise’ or skill.
These were the first steps in my lifetime of learning, which never ends.

Lynn Andrews
I qualified as a Tai Chi Qigong Session Leader in August 2022. I currently hold a Certificate in Tai Chi Qi Gong Well Being and Rehabilitation.
I specialise in linking an appreciation of ‘the outdoors’ with the Tai Chi experience I am currently building an active group of participants in Aston Clinton Park on Tuesdays at 12:00 pm

Sue Cocklin
I am a martial artist (contact karate, AKA kickboxing) and have a great interest in all things martial art related. This led me to Tai Chi Qigong, as a form of stretching in between classes, and staying flexible in later years.
I love sharing this exercise with others and being able give something back to the universe, that we are all lucky enough to be part of.

Sarah Oakley
My name is Sarah, age 61, I've been doing tai chi for 3 years. I Started Nordic Walking a year later in Sept 2023. I became a Tai Chi session leader in Feb 25, and a walk leader in May 25. I I’m busy with a lot of things like playing the drums, keeping bees and I’m on the Mid Bucks Beekeepers Association committee. I’m an artist on the side and I do pet portrait commissions for people.
